Development Of Communication

The Development of Communication took man thousands of years, since the prehistoric ages and till now Communication is being improved. Communicating between us is very important so that we could share ideas, exchange knowledge and express our emotions.

Perhaps the basic way of Communication is interpersonal (face-to-face) communication, which were usually done by speaking. From the earliest times, people needed some sort of long-distance communication. Many ways were developed such as smoke signals, drumbeats, and sending written messages tied to pigeons' legs (which were still used until World War I).

By the 19th Century, there were some major advances in Communication. The introduction of the Telegraph (1837) by Samuel F. B Morse and the Telephone (1876) by Alexander Graham Bell. Electric signals were transmitted through cables, which was much more efficient than the old ways and allowed for greater distances and easier ways.

These methods are still used nowadays, but in branches such as space it would be impossible to use cable communication (or pigeons !?!). It is also inconvenient in most mobile communication, such as in cars and moving trains. So new systems had to be invented, which could send signals without using cables. The first system to send wireless signals was the Radio, which was invented in 1899 and sent on-off signals (like the telegraph) at distances close to 3km.

In Space, we need to forget about cable communication. We couldn't send a spaceship with some cables hanging down from it!!!

Space is the branch that took great advantage of the breakthrough in wireless Communication.

Early Communications

People now are busy communicating with ease each others on handphone with little knowledge how we attain to the current technological advancement!
Have you ever wonder in how early communications were made?
